Why these six
Each one answers a question that comes up constantly and that a lab report doesn't address. Reference ranges are printed in whatever unit the laboratory uses, derived values like HOMA-IR and non-HDL are never calculated for you, and the difference between a range being normal and a result being adequate is left entirely unexplained.
They also share a limitation worth stating plainly: a calculator answers a question about one moment. Almost everything useful in blood work lives in the comparison across time — the same marker, measured repeatedly, in a consistent unit. That is the part these tools can't do, and it's why reading results properly means keeping them rather than converting them once and moving on.
